Piper McKenna is overjoyed when her prodigal brother returns to Yancey, Alaska, but her joy turns to shock when she sees he's covered in blood. His arrest for murder quickly follows. Because of his reputation, the only person who refuses to believe the overwhelming evidence against him is his sister, Piper.
Deputy Landon Grainger is a long time McKenna family friend, but he's sworn to uphold the law. For him, the evidence is all that matters. Only when Piper steps into danger in her quest for proof to free her brother does Landon realize she needs to be protected from herself. At the same time, he privately acknowledges that his feelings for Piper have changed from friendship to attraction.
As the two of them, and eventually the other McKenna siblings, follow clues, they venture into a deep web of intrigue. Their quest takes them to locations in British Columbia, California, and Oregon at an ever-increasing pace.
Pettrey doesn’t relax the tension for a moment. Shattered kept me awake late at night as I kept reading just "one more chapter."
If you enjoy suspense mixed with a good portion of romance, you’ll love Shattered. I certainly did!

JOY TAKES FLIGHT, by Bonnie Leon
Kate believes she's living her dream when she and Dr. Paul Anderson marry. After all of the hurdles their relationship faced, now life promises smooth sailing. But some promises can be misleading. Kate visualizes her life as an Alaskan bush pilot continuing without a hitch. Unfortunately, Paul has other ideas, especially after they learn they are expecting a child. Demons from his past haunt him, and Kate is unable to break through the barriers he's erected around himself. She wants one thing, Paul wants another. As their life unravels, Kate comes to believe she's lost Paul for good.
Joy Takes Flight is an engrossing story, filled with authentic details of Alaska in the 1930's. Reading Leon’s skilled descriptions of flight in a bush plane will have you clinging to the edge of your seat.
Joy Takes Flight is the thrilling conclusion to Leon’s Alaskan Skies series. If you haven’t read the first two books, hurry out and buy all three! You're in for a treat.

SUBMERGED, by Dani Pettrey
Bailey Craig is a reluctant visitor to Yancey, Alaska, the town she fled as a young adult. The mistakes she made as a teenager haunt her, and she's sure the memories live on in Yancey as well. However, a funeral and business affairs force her return. Once there, she can’t avoid crossing paths with Cole McKenna, the man she,s never been able to forget. Seeing him brings back the shame of her past. As much as she tries to avoid Cole, a murder forces her to work closely with him to find the person responsible.
With Submerged, Dani Pettrey has crafted a compelling suspense novel. As the tension escalates, the story grabs the reader and doesn't let go. The deep-water diving scenes had me holding my breath.
The faith element is seamlessly woven into Submerged. Bailey's reluctance to believe she’s worthy in God's eyes is something many of us may have struggled with at some point in our lives.
Some of the scenes are a bit intense. I recommend Submerged wholeheartedly, but the story is best suited for older teens and adults.

WINGS OF PROMISE, by Bonnie Leon
Kate Evans is a pilot, and not just any pilot--she's a bush pilot in Alaska in the 1930's. The pages of Wings of Promise are filled with the challenges she faces. The elements threaten, as do some of the male pilots who work for the same flying service that employs Kate.
On the emotional front, Kate's heart is also in danger. Dr. Paul Anderson agrees to be a bush doctor, and he and Kate spend time together both in the air and on the ground. But who is Paul Anderson, really? If a man refuses to discuss his background, is he hiding something sinister? This dilemma chews at Kate as she fights her attraction to the handsome physician.
Fortunately Kate has Mike Conlin in her life, a fellow pilot who understands her love of flying. As their friendship deepens, Kate feels she's found the perfect mate--until the unexpected happens.
Leon brings Alaska and its dangers to vibrant life in Wings of Promise. This story kept me awake turning pages late at night. I guarantee it will have the same effect on you.

TOUCHING THE CLOUDS, by Bonnie Leon

Touching the Clouds is a strong story about the surprises God has in store for Kate Evans as she pursues her dream of being a bush pilot in Alaska. Kate is a headstrong young woman whose desire for adventure pulls her away for her Washington state home and into an encounter with a mysterious stranger in the Alaskan bush.
Through rich descriptions, Leon immerses the reader in Depression-era America, the time period in which the novel is set. I loved the details about Alaskan life that fill Touching the Clouds.
Leon writes with her heart, and that skill shines through in her prose. If you’re looking for a fast-moving novel filled with believable characters, I recommend Touching the Clouds.
